We welcome you to our school district and to our website. Our schools are located in Exira and Elk Horn, Iowa, small communities in Audubon and Shelby Counties. We enjoy a strong sense of community and benefit from a high level of parent and community involvement.

Our schools offer many amenities including a one-to-one laptop computer program, as well as strong academic and extra-curricular programs. Our two schools, preschool, kindergarten, and grades 4-8 in Exira, and preschool through 3rd grade and grades 9-12 in Elk-Horn, serve over three hundred students from preschool through 12th grade.

Save the Date: First Day of School Aug. 15

School is out for the summer, but remember our first day back to school is August 15. We will release students at 2:30 p.m. on the August 15 and 16. You will find school supply lists on this website under the appropriate attendance center or on our Registration / Immunizations page. Enjoy your summer. We look forward to seeing you in the fall! We hope you find time to curl up with a good book this summer!

Exira-EHK Open House

As part of our commitment to the students, parents, and the community, we would like to welcome everyone to enjoy our school building as much as we do. We will open our doors to the community on Tuesday, August 13 at the Exira-EHK Middle School in Exira from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

At this time we would like to have the students who will be attending the school to bring in supplies, meet their teachers, and investigate where their locker will be for the upcoming school year. Mr. Humphrey, the middle school principal, and the teachers will be there to help acquaint new student and help with questions.

On Wednesday, August 14 the Exira-EHK Elementary in Elk Horn, Mrs. Bruns, the elementary principal, and the elementary teachers will greet students from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to also help the students become acquainted with the school.

The Exira-EHK High School is going to try something a bit more scheduled. They will be getting started at 6:00 p.m. and finishing up at 8:00 p.m. as well at a later date. Please revisit the website and look for more details as the time draws closer.
